Eft, what is it?
EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), often called “tapping,” is a gentle mind-body practice that combines elements of modern psychology with acupressure points used in traditional acupuncture. By tapping on specific points on the body while focusing on thoughts, emotions, or memories, EFT helps reduce emotional intensity while also supporting the nervous system in processing and regulating the body’s survival stress response.

Research on EFT has shown significant reductions in psychological distress, with reporting around a 40–50% reduction in anxiety and depression symptoms and up to 60–70% reduction in PTSD symptoms following EFT interventions. Studies have also found measurable decreases in stress markers such as cortisol alongside improvements in emotional regulation and immune system markers.
How is EFT different to other therapies?
Most conventional psychological approaches (like CBT or talk therapy) focus primarily on thought patterns, emotions, and behavioural change through conversation and cognitive insight. EFT by contrast, combines psychological focus with somatic stimulation (tapping on acupressure points) to help regulate the response in the system while emotions or memories are activated.
